Grade: 4
Four authors came together to write the Alien Warrior Academy Series. I’m reviewing the series as a whole. While each book ends with a HEA for the couple, I can’t see being happy only reading one. The story arc continues through all 4 books and doesn’t conclude individually in any of the books.
An alien race known as the Skrum have come to attack Earth. The Lokarians have been fighting the Skrum for a while and know if they take Earth they will be unstoppable. The Lokarians make a deal with Earth that if they send them the best Earth has to offer to help train and fight, they will help guard Earth. We come in to the story on the transport ship of Earth’s elite coming to train. Our heroines are Earth’s best cycle racer, hacker, munitions expert and assassin.
Book 1, Rogue, is with Brooke, racer, and Koran, the racing instructor.
Book 2, Rebel, is with Layla, explosives, and Zarryn, the explosives instructor.
Book 3, Reckless, is with Autumn, hacker, and Mikaeus, the hand-to-hand instructor.
Book 4, Ruthless, is with Elena, assassin, and Daryx, the headmaster.
By now you might be catching a theme. All books are between a student and an instructor. I’ll also give a non-spoiler alert that all books end up with private lessons, thus giving forced closeness.
I could probably give lots of critical feedback about the lack of depth in the characters, the plot devices being a little too easy, the world building lacking in some areas…but honestly, I’m not going to, because I just enjoyed them too much.
These books were cute, easy-to-read, sexy books. They weren’t trying to be an intensely deep look at human relations. They weren’t trying to break the mold and be the best alien-human romance ever written. All they wanted to be was a fun and enjoyable read. Once I started the first one all I wanted to do was keep reading. So that’s what I did. I just kept reading all 4, and then I wanted more.
If you’re worried that you don’t really like interspecies relations…don’t be. The Lokarians are essentially really buff humans with 1 body difference that I won’t disclose. Needless to say, it’s nothing that affects how you picture them. Also, side note. We never see a female Lokarian, so again, we’re not taking an in depth look into another species.
Bottomline: For a good time, pick up this series.
